Happy Springtime from the High Desert

Yes, we got more snow yesterday and last night. Flannery, who's home this weekend (Oakley too!), stood in the back door and took this picture earlier this morning. You may be able to tell that the sun is just starting to creep across the field. The shaggy contours of the junipers are starting to reveal themselves once more as the spring snow melts. Such is the speed of transformation in the high desert. Just last week I had the gallery door wide open and the happy tourists were walking by in their shirt sleeves. Today I imagine they're bundled up in down jackets and snow boots. The lucky ones anyway, those who looked at a forecast before they packed their bags.

I'm enjoying a quiet day at home with the kids. A fire crackles in the woodstove and I lift my French roast in a toast to (what I hope is) the last snow of springtime.

(Does a double take, mouth hanging open...)

Is that normal for this time of year where you are?

Rain down our way, O bliss. Enjoy your French-roasted toast, your snowy spring day, the babes flown home, and your good man...

San....and here we are in the 60s. Glad to read that you are alive and well. A fire and coffee sounds like the way to go.

We are in snow, also. We have had no hint of sun for a few days. This time of year, the snow is heavy and slick and gloppy. Driving in it yesterday, I was slip-sliding away and didn't find that to be nearly as fun as it was when I was younger. I think I need to adjust my perspective a little.

I feel much warmer while thinking of you in front of the fire.

Yes! May this be the last snow this spring!

Much warmth, much plant-greening moisture, and a lot of love & peace to you, San!

I'm a little jealous, my snow days are done. As I was reading your post I glanced to the right and saw that your profile blurb says "I believe in the power of levity", is that what it always said? I even so much as mentioned in my award that you "believe in the power of levitation"

I'll toast a dark roast to that, too! I love snow, but not in spring. Hi San! Have a great weekend with Oakley & Flannery. :-)

the second time I visited New Mexico and stayed in vallacitos/taos then Santa Fe was a month in April. Thank goodness I read a guide book which said bring your warm jacket. That snow is pretty though and as it will melt fast it is a delight.

While we sip tea here in the Northwest this evening we have a cozy fire burning as well,. We have mowed the lawn once this spring and it needs another cut. I love the gentleness of the weather in the moderate seasons; spring and autumn.

It does look awfully beautiful, whether you're happy with it or not. Is it normal for it to snow so late in the season? I thought everyone was all done with winter. Wishful thinking on my part probably.

Aaah, chicks coming home to roost.
Nothing feels better, does it?

Beautiful photo, but I'm glad we've seen our last. I'm doing yard work, and getting ready to plant four o'clocks and lillies.
Eighty degrees yesterday.
Smilin',,,tipping my mug to your french roast, warm home fires, and kidlings. Perfect!

We've had bright blue skies and warm sunshine here today. The snow look beautiful but I much prefer the sun. :)

Oh my gosh, that's crazy! It's supposed to snow here in Toronto next week, but this is Canada! What's your excuse? ;-)

San that's a lovely snow you had and it's hard to belive that parts of the country are still getting snow. Sounds wonderful to me, the kids being home, a springtime snow and the french roast toast!

It seems late in the year but it is still very beautiful!

Truthfully, despite how beautiful it is, I'm glad it's you and not me. ;)

Lovely shot.. enjoy the warmth of your fire.

Here in Wyoming, on the high desert, we got that snow also and it finally stopped after 7 inches. Today it is all gone and it is supposed to be in the 70s this week.
Have a great week!

Beautiful. But so very changeable extremes in your neck of the woods right now!

That's a beautiful shot but I can imagine that you're ready for spring. We had a snow on March 1 which was very unusual for NC but we're in the full force of springtime now. Thanks for visiting my blog. I appreciated it.

San beautiful shot, but ouch, hope it will not go my way, lol. Anna :)

Missed this the last time I came by. It's so odd how we have ideas about places and I never would connect Taos with SNOW. Guess I can't complain about the weather here (though I will). Though it has remained absurdly chilly, it does LOOK like Spring.
